LPN Residency Program

At Baxter Health, we want your introduction to the hospital setting to be safe and educational. The Baxter Regional LPN Residency Program gives you the experience you need while giving you the opportunity to learn from experienced nurses, providers and subject matter experts. You'll also get the opportunity to attend workshops, lectures and group discussions to further enhance your education.

The LPN Residency Program gives new grad Licensed Practical Nurses experience while transitioning from students to professionals. You'll get hands-on training in a hospital setting while continuing to learn and grown in the nursing field. Applicants must be newly graduated with less than 6 months of experience and licensed or eligible for licensure. LPNs with one year of experience or less may be eligible while meeting certain criteria.

The LPN Residency Program is a 15-week full-time paid position for specific units based on the applicant's professional interest and unit match.

Step 1 - Clinical Skills & Patient Care

The LPN Residency Program begins with an AI assisted assessment using a program called Jane. This program assesses knowledge of clinical topics, critical thinking and patient care which is then used to create an individualized learning plan.

Hands-on workshops and skill practice in the Gayle and Ed Goodman SIM Center is used in combination with each other to ensure each resident is given the perfect curriculum for their specific learning style.

Step 2 - Communication & Self-Awareness

Meeting the communication needs of patients and patient family members, as well as developing self-awareness are heavily prioritized in the LPN Residency Program. Workshops such as Connecting Through Conversation and Understanding Your Learning Style are implemented to create a fully comprehensive program. Story Embracement Sessions are also used to look back on certain situations as learning moments.

Step 3 - Preceptorship

Each LPN resident is assigned their very own preceptor to assist them with transitioning to the acute care setting. Asking questions of your preceptor will be one of your major learning opportunities during the LPN Residency Program.

The LPN Residency Program End of Immersion Capstone marks the end of the program. This simulated learning experience ties all the skills learned into one action-filled experience.
