Advanced Heart Rhythm Care, Close to Home

When your heart beats too fast, too slow, or out of rhythm, you may feel tired, short of breath, dizzy, or simply not like yourself. For years, many patients in our region who needed a heart rhythm specialist had to drive hours to see one. Now, that care is right here in Mountain Home.

Baxter Health’s electrophysiology program gives you access to a fellowship-trained specialist who can identify the cause of your symptoms, clearly explain your options, and build a treatment plan that fits your life. It is advanced care close to home, delivered by people who see you as a neighbor.

What Is Electrophysiology?

Your heart has its own electrical system that tells it when to beat. Electrophysiology (often called EP) is the area of cardiology focused on that system. An electrophysiologist is a cardiologist with additional training to diagnose and treat abnormal heart rhythms, also called arrhythmias.

Some arrhythmias are harmless, but others can affect your quality of life and, if left unmanaged, raise your risk of stroke or heart failure. An electrophysiologist can help you understand what is happening and what you can do about it.

Conditions We Treat

Our electrophysiology team cares for patients with a wide range of heart rhythm conditions, including:

  • Atrial fibrillation (AFib)
  • Atrial flutter
  • Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT)
  • Ventricular arrhythmias
  • Bradycardia (a heartbeat that is too slow)
  • Other complex rhythm disorders

When to See an Electrophysiologist

Talk with your primary care provider or cardiologist about an electrophysiology referral if you have:

  • A diagnosis of AFib, atrial flutter, or another arrhythmia
  • A racing, pounding, fluttering, or irregular heartbeat
  • A heartbeat that feels unusually slow
  • Unexplained dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting
  • An abnormal ECG or heart monitor result
  • A rhythm condition that has not improved with medication
  • A pacemaker or defibrillator that needs specialist follow-up

If a racing heartbeat comes with chest pain, trouble breathing, or fainting, call 911.

Spencer Grigg, DO

Dr. Grigg is passionate about bringing advanced, patient-centered heart rhythm care to communities where access to this kind of specialty care has been limited. He describes his approach simply: listen closely, explain things clearly, and treat patients the way he would want his own family treated. He believes every patient deserves to feel heard, understand their diagnosis, and know their options.

Dr. Grigg completed an internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at UCHealth/University of Colorado Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo, Colorado, followed by an advanced clinical cardiac electrophysiology fellowship at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, New York. He earned his medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He brings experience with modern ablation technologies, including pulsed field ablation, radiofrequency ablation, and cryoablation.
