At Baxter Health, we intentionally utilize conservative, proven treatment methods such as Visionaire Cutting Guidance in knee replacement procedures, robotic-assisted surgery, and premium hypoallergenic materials, namely Oxinium and VERILAST technology, to provide you a shorter, less-invasive procedure, a faster, less-painful recovery, and longer implant longevity.
Baxter Heath is home to some of the most advanced orthopaedic technology and materials in the nation. Our talented, board-certified team of orthopaedic surgeons including Dr. Thomas Knox, Dr. Don Franklin III, Dr. Jason McConnell, Dr. Win Moore, Dr. Russ Rauls, and Dr. Ed Roeder, offer the following:
Oxinium Oxidized Zirconium (Oxinium), starts from a metal alloy primarily composed of Zirconium. Through a specific manufacturing process, the material is "ceramicized," offering the smoothness and wear resistance of ceramics without sacrificing the strength and durability of metal. In short, these are all important considerations to a potential joint-replacement patient that prefers an ideal implant material designed with strong construction, offers low wear and unmatched durability, and is considered a hypoallergenic, biocompatible material cleared by the FDA for 30 years of implant lifespan.
With the rise of robotic-assisted surgery in the field of orthopaedics, it is important to understand that world-class orthopaedic technology and care does not require robotic assistance - which is why Baxter Health orthopaedists prefer VISIONAIRE Cutting Guidance in knee replacement cases over robotic-arm assistance. Data suggests that robotic-assisted knee replacements actually have LONGER procedure times, HIGHER cost to patient on average, and LONGER therapeutic recovery windows.
Unlike other implants, VERILAST Technology uses low-friction material on both sides of the hip joint. The Australian National Joint Registry has found VERILAST Technology to have the highest rates of survival of any hip bearing pair studied.
If you receive a hip implant at Baxter Health, you will be receiving a VERILAST Technology implant and the peace of mind that comes along with it. The femoral head implant will be constructed of Oxinium, a ceramic-like material that is 4,900 times more scratch resistant than a cobalt chrome implant, meaning longer lifetime of the instrument. Also, because Oxinium contains only trace amounts of nickel (<0.0035%), it is considered to be a biocompatible material for patients with a metal allergy or even a metal sensitivity.
