RDLC to Host Love Your Limbs: PAD Awareness Event

Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD), a life-threatening condition, affects millions of Americans by narrowing arteries and reducing blood flow to the limbs, according to American Heart Association (AHA) estimates. And according to the American Diabetes Association, an estimated 1 out of every 3 people with diabetes over the age of 50 have this condition.

Because people with PAD may or may not have symptoms, PAD can go undiagnosed. That’s why it’s important to be examined, especially if you are at risk for coronary artery disease, experience leg pain when walking, or have ulcers on your legs or feet. Patients with PAD are also at risk for lower-extremity amputation, particularly in people over the age of 50, according to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute.

For more information about PAD symptoms and minimally-invasive treatment options as well as receive free PAD screenings, join the Reppell Diabetes Learning Center for a Love Your Limbs: Peripheral Arterial Disease Awareness Event featuring interventional cardiologist Dr. Patrick Tobbia on Monday, January 29 at noon. The event is free, and lunch will be served. Because space is limited, reservations are required. To register, enroll online or contact Jodi Bodenhamer, RN, CDE, RDLC Coordinator, at (870) 508-1765 or jbodenhamer@baxterregional.org.

The Love Your Limbs Campaign is an initiative to raise public awareness of PAD and physician awareness of treatment options. While the potential life-altering consequences of PAD are real, widespread awareness of the disease is not. For more information, visit www.loveyourlimbs.com.
