October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
What better time to schedule your mammogram than National Breast Cancer Awareness Month? A mammogram is the best screening tool available today to find breast cancer early. Although yearly mammograms are recommended beginning at age 40, all women should talk with their doctors about mammography and decide on an appropriate screening schedule. Luckily, the latest mammography technology is available right here in Mountain Home! Baxter Regional Medical Center was the first hospital in Arkansas and Missouri to offer 3D mammography technology.

To kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Peitz Cancer Support House will host the Mobile Mammography Unit on Wednesday, October 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Call the PCSH at (870) 508-CARE (2273) to schedule your MMU appointment or for more information on mammography and breast self exams.

On Monday, October 9 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., the Schliemann Center for Women’s Health Education will host a Fall Open House. The MMU will be on site for tours and to learn more about the services offered at the Breast Imaging Center. BRMC mammographers and radiologists will be on hand to answer questions and help debunk mammogram fears.

Also at the Schliemann Center, Dr. Corey Smith, OB/Gyn, BRMC Obstetrics & Gynecology, will host a free breast cancer screening seminar on Tuesday, October 17 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Light snacks will be served. To register, visit www.baxterregional.org/events, call the SCWHE at (870) 508-2345 or email Stefany Isham, SCWHE Coordinator, at sisham@baxterregional.org.

One in eight women will develop breast cancer, and early detection is the key to positive outcomes. If you’re age 40 or older, contact your physician today to find out more and schedule your 3D mammogram at the Breast Imaging Center at Baxter Regional Medical Center. See if the BRMC MMU is scheduled to be near you by checking the online calendar at www.baxterregional.org/events. 3D mammograms save lives. Get one!
