Baxter Health Scholarships

At Baxter Health, we take great pride in supporting the next generation of healthcare professionals. We are excited to offer a range of scholarship opportunities to help students in our region pursue rewarding careers in nursing and allied health. These scholarships are part of our commitment to becoming the most comprehensive, high-quality regional medical center in the nation. We want to make it easier for you to achieve your dream of working in the healthcare field.

Scholarship Agreement

All scholarships require a work commitment of 60 hours per pay period (two weeks); six months for every $5,000 in scholarship monies received, or it must be repaid. Time counted towards work commitment does not start until after graduation. In order to maintain your scholarship, students are required to submit a renewal form each term with their current transcripts with a GPA of 2.50 or higher.

Please check the list of available scholarships to see which one is right for you and your degree. Only one scholarship will be awarded per applicant.

Undergraduate Students

Arthur F. Baker and Bonny B. Baker Education Scholarship

The Arthur F. Baker and Bonny B Baker Nursing Education Scholarship Trust Fund was established in 1992 to assist area students with education expenses who are going into the nursing field. Scholarship award will be based on ability, character, dedication, and financial need.

Certification/Degree Criteria:

Education must be for a nursing degree (CNA, NA, LPN, ASN, BSN

Scholarship Amount:

$5,000 per calendar year ($2,500 for spring and fall)

Caroline Austino Medical Scholarship

The Caroline Austino Medical Scholarship Trust Fund was established in 2003 to assist area students with education expenses. This scholarship will assist students with education expenses entering any medical field.

Certification/Degree Criteria:

Education must be for a medical profession (i.e. Radiology, Speech Therapy, Physical Therapy Assistant, Surgical Technician, etc.)

Scholarship Amount:

$5,000 per calendar year ($2,500 for spring and fall)

Jimmy Leon McLean Cardiac Nursing Scholarship

The Jimmy Leon McLean Cardiac Nursing Endowment Fund was established in 2024 to assist area students with education expenses who are pursuing a career in cardiac nursing.

Certification/Degree Criteria:

Education must specialize in cardiac care.

Scholarship Amount:

$5,000 per calendar year ($2,500 for spring and fall)

JoAnne Cushing Nursing Scholarship

The JoAnne Cushing Nursing Endowment was established to provide young people entering the healthcare field. Their decision has given them the satisfaction that they are providing meaningful assistance to their hospital.

Certification/Degree Criteria:

Education must be for a nursing degree (CNA, NA, LPN, ASN, BSN).

Scholarship Amount:

$5,000 per calendar year ($2,500 for spring and fall)

Ruth Elizabeth Anderson and Mary Jane Downes Scholarship

The Ruth Elizabeth Anderson and Mary Jane Downes Trust Endowment Fund was established in 1991 to assist area students with education expenses who are going into the nursing or paramedic field.

Certification/Degree Criteria:

Education must be in a healthcare field (LPN, RN, BSN, MSN, EMT, or Paramedic).

Scholarship Amount:

$10,000 per calendar year ($5,000 for spring and fall)

Baxter Health Employees

Baxter Health Employee Education Assistance

The Baxter Health Employee Education Assistance Scholarship Fund was established to provide current employees with assistance to continue their education in a nursing and non-nursing position.

Certification/Degree Criteria:

Full time Baxter Health employee (80 hours/pay period) for at least one year, or a part time employee (minimum 60 hours/pay period) for at least two years.
Must maintain a minimum of 32 hours/pay period while attending college.

Scholarship Amount:

$6,000 per calendar year (max amount of $3,000 per spring and fall terms)

Baxter Health Employee RN to BSN/MSN Scholarship

The Baxter Health Employee RN to BSN/MSN Scholarship Fund was established to provide current employees assistance with education expenses who are continuing their education degrees for BSN, MSN, or Doctorate.

Certification/Degree Criteria:

Full time Baxter Health employee (80 hours/pay period) for at least one year, or a part time employee (minimum 60 hours/pay period) for at least two years.
Must maintain a minimum of 32 hours/pay period while attending college.

Scholarship Amount:

BSN - $6,000 per calendar year (max amount of $3,000 per spring and fall terms)
MSN/DOC - $7,500 per calendar year (max amount of $3,750 per spring and fall terms)

Baxter Health Employee Children and Grandchildren Scholarship

The Baxter Health Employee Children and Grandchildren Scholarship was created in 2004 for the purpose of providing financial assistance to students who demonstrate a strong desire to further their education and have a financial need.

Certification/Degree Criteria:

Applicant must be a current high school senior
Employee (Parent/Grandparent) must be a in good standing for at least a year and worked a minimum of 500 hours in the past year
GPA must be a 2.0 or higher

Scholarship Amount:

$1,000 per calendar year ($500 per Fall and Spring)
