About Esosa

Dr. Esosa Ukponmwan brings a wealth of clinical and research experience to the Baxter Health Nephrology Clinic, where he joins Dr. Grant Mathews, Joyce Stratmoen, APRN, and Meagan Thitoff, APRN, in caring for kidney patients across North Central Arkansas and Southern Missouri.

Dr. Ukponmwan completed his nephrology fellowship at Kaiser Permanente San Francisco Medical Center, where he cared for patients with both acute and chronic kidney disease, managed dialysis care, and worked alongside transplant teams at the University of California San Francisco. He has experience with both hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, and understands the impact these treatments have on a patient's daily life.

Before his fellowship, Dr. Ukponmwan completed his internal medicine residency at Michigan State University, where he also taught medical students as clinical faculty. He holds a master's degree in public health with a focus on epidemiology and has spent years as a clinical researcher studying how kidney disease, heart disease, and diabetes interact and progress, a perspective that shapes his approach to patient care.

Dr. Ukponmwan has a longstanding commitment to service, having volunteered at free clinics in Michigan, provided care to people living with HIV in Houston, and supported relief efforts following Hurricane Harvey. Outside the clinic, he enjoys reading, traveling, and learning about new cultures and communities.
