About Derek

McMurry brings more than a decade of experience as a nurse practitioner specializing in pain management, with a background that is unusually broad. Before earning his master’s degree in nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Samford University, he spent more than a decade as a practicing chiropractor, treating patients with musculoskeletal and spine conditions. That dual foundation, combining hands-on physical medicine with advanced practice nursing, gives him a perspective on pain that few providers can match.

In his nurse practitioner career, McMurry has worked in dedicated pain management clinics where he has cared for patients dealing with chronic back and neck pain, nerve pain, arthritis, post-surgical pain, and complex conditions that haven’t responded to simpler treatments. He has assisted with and coordinated interventional procedures including epidural injections, nerve blocks, joint injections, and spinal cord stimulation. These are treatments that can offer meaningful relief when other options have fallen short. He is skilled in medication management for complex pain patients and approaches that work with a careful, patient-centered focus.

McMurry pursued advanced training in pain management through Harvard Medical School and additional education in ultrasound-guided and fluoroscopic procedures. His clinical background spans musculoskeletal, orthopaedic, and neurological care. This experience gives him the tools to evaluate patients from multiple angles and build treatment plans that reflect the whole person, not just the diagnosis.

Outside of caring for patients, McMurry enjoys traveling, shooting, hunting, and fishing, but the thing he values most is spending quality time with his family.
