About This Event

  • Event Type:Baxter Health Community Event
Details:

Baxter Health Bone & Joint Clinic will host a free community event on Thursday, November 19, at 6 p.m. in the Gregory Room at the Mountain Home Community Center, 1 Community Center Drive. Thomas E. Knox, MD, will be on hand to introduce attendees to advanced ultrasound-guided platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections, a cutting-edge regenerative procedure now available at the clinic and not yet widely available in the region. Staff from Bioventus, the company behind the XCELL PRP system used at the clinic, will also be present to demonstrate the technology and answer questions. Dinner will be provided.

The technique now used at Baxter Health Bone & Joint Clinic pairs the natural approach of platelet-rich plasma therapy with two important advances. The first is the XCELL PRP system, which produces a platelet concentration up to 10 times the baseline level found in whole blood. Earlier PRP methods produced widely varying concentrations, which contributed to inconsistent results. The XCELL system delivers a consistently high concentration, which research has linked to stronger healing outcomes. The second advance is ultrasound guidance, which allows Knox to watch the needle in real time as it reaches the target tissue and confirm precise placement before the PRP is delivered, improving both safety and results.
