Baxter Health Welcomes Surgical Oncologist Anastasios Mitsakos, MD, to the Medical Staff

Baxter Health is proud to welcome Anastasios Mitsakos, MD, to the medical staff. Dr. Mitsakos, a highly trained general surgeon and surgical oncologist, will be practicing with the teams at Ozark Surgical Group and Highlands Oncology, bringing advanced expertise in cancer surgery to the region.

Dr. Mitsakos recently completed a complex general surgical oncology fellowship at the prestigious H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. His extensive training also includes a resident rotation in surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, a research fellowship in surgical oncology at Vidant Cancer Center at East Carolina University’s Department of Surgery in Greenville, North Carolina, and a surgical education research fellowship. He completed a general surgery residency at Vidant Medical Center / East Carolina University.

Dr. Mitsakos earned his college degree through the Medical Faculty of the Military School of Combat Support Officers (MSCSO) in Thessaloniki, Greece, and his Doctor of Medicine Degree from the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He also participated in the 1st Summer Medical Student Training School in the Department of Internal Medicine at Hippokrateion General Hospital of Thessaloniki. In addition, he completed a visiting medical student clinical rotation in the Department of Surgery at the Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education in Rochester, Minnesota.

Outside of caring for his patients, Dr. Mitsakos enjoys hard rock electric guitar playing, running, and basketball.
