Baxter Health Implements Sign-In Process for After-Hours Visitors

To Ensure the Safety of Patients and Healthcare Workers, Baxter Health Implements Sign-In Process for After-Hours Visitors

Baxter Health is taking proactive steps to help reduce the risk of violence against our team of healthcare workers and to create a safer environment for patients and all who visit or work at our hospital or healthcare facilities. Recent reports have shown an alarming increase in violence against healthcare workers, particularly nurses. A 2022 survey by National Nurses United found that almost half of nurses nationwide reported an escalation in workplace violence. This is an increase of 57% from September, 2021, and a staggering 119% rise from March, 2021, as cited by Becker’s Hospital Review.

Given these statistics, Baxter Health is taking proactive steps to prevent violence against our medical professionals and patients to ensure the safety of all those who work in or visit our healthcare facilities. Beginning Monday, July 31, 2023, Baxter Health will be implementing a new sign-in process for all visitors who enter the hospital after visiting hours, between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Those visitors will now be greeted by a Security Officer at the Cline Emergency Center corridor and asked to provide their name and the reason for their visit before they can access areas beyond the emergency department corridor. Baxter Health believes that this new sign-in process is the first step of many to help us to better protect our patients, visitors, and staff members after normal visiting hours.

“Baxter Health is unwavering in its commitment to the safety and well-being of everyone who visits or works at the hospital. We believe that this sign-in process will play a crucial role in enhancing the protection of our patients, visitors, and healthcare professionals. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we roll out this significant new policy,” said Ron Peterson, Baxter Health President and CEO.
